Greetings from Athens – video of the Hendershot’s BRUCE tribute

hendershot's

So here’s a cool bonus from the big Bruce show in Athens, Ga. a couple of weeks back: A sweet documentary video by a some really talented journalists from the video wing of Clarke Central High School’s Odyssey magazine. Written by Jenny Alpaugh, narrated and edited by Nicholas Byrne and shot (beautifully) by Porter McLeod and Mr. Byrne, the gang created a very cool 7-minute portrait of the evening. The stage shots give a small hint of how the music went that night (did anyone else post anything out there?) and the backstage glimpses are cool, too. Plenty of Casey Neill to be heard, and some enticing peeks at Patterson Hood’s spellbinding set, too.

Check it out, and I’ll be back with some more posts in the next lil’ while.

Seattle Bruce tribute on Saturday Night, live Linda Ronstadt interview on Tuesday and more!

The Athens, Ga. Bruce tribute came off so great last night — see this wrap-up on today’s Backstreets.com news page — it’s hard to believe I’ll be doing it again come Saturday night — two days from now, on September 28 at the Royal Room at 5000 Rainier Ave South) with a whole other cast of cool musical characters. But that’s exactly what’s happening, so come on out, toss back a few and let’s hang out again, just like we did last century when I was growing up (and having a ball) on Capitol Hill.

Oh but wait: I’m still in Athens, and will be hanging out, signing books and providing Q’s to A’s at the lovely Avid book shop on Prince St. The fun starts at 6:30 (pronto!) and while the Georgia Bulldogs are not the Garfield Bulldogs, it already feels like family down here. Athens is like that.

Meanwhile, you can also check out this fairly lengthy interview I did with Paul Gleason for the Caught in the Carousel website. It goes into crazy depth about some things, and reveals some scandalous things about the way I express myself in conversation when I forget it might all turn up in print, or some fuckin’ shit like that. See what I mean?

In other news: I’ll be interviewing Linda Ronstadt onstage during her appearance at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton, Or. The show starts at 7 pm and should be crowded so maybe get there early.

And do we need an excuse to check this out again? Vive el Sociedad Alternativa!

Big BRUCE News: Drive-By Bruce tribute show in Athens, Ga.

patterson_hoodWe’ve got a bunch of cool BRUCE events planned for the fall, but it’s going to be tough to top this one: A night of Bruce Springsteen songs performed by an all-star collection of Athens, Ga.-based musicians, with Drive-By Trucker Patterson Hood at the helm.

I’ll be doing a couple of reading-set-to-music things, but the real attraction is Patterson and friends, who so far are: Patterson Hood; T. Hardy Morris; Thayer Serrano; Don Chambers; Moths; Old Smokey; Loney John Hutchins; Chad Evans and…all the  way from Portland, Ore., Casey Neill.

Tickets are $5, and all proceeds will go to Nuci’s Space, a musicians’ support and resource center in Athens.

I’ll update as more artists are added to the bill, but for now here are the specs:

Wed. Sept. 25, 7 pm
